Why have some Caps increased while others have not?
The “Over 50’s”Transitional Cap is not indexed.
Contributions arising from Personal Injury payments are not subject to any cap – so there is no cap to index.
The CGT contributions cap has been indexed and increased by $45,000.
The Concessional Contributions cap – while subject to indexing – will only be adjusted once the indexed value exceeds $55,000 in which case the new figure will be rounded down to $55,000.
If the indexed value of the concessional contributions cap moved from $50,000 to $54,000, there will be no adjustment as adjustments are made in increments of $5,000. If the indexed value moved from $54,000 to $56,200 then the cap will be adjusted from $50,000 to $55,000 (as the cap is the indexed value rounded down to the nearest multiple of $5,000).
The non-concessional contributions cap is specified as 3 times the concessional contributions cap. Consequently, once the concessional contributions cap moves from $50,000 to $55,000, the non-concessional contributions cap will move from $150,000 to $165,000.
