Why has Superstream been introduced?

The electronic funds transfer of employer contributions was a recommendation of the Cooper Super Review.  Superstream has been introduced to facilitate prompt and correct payment of employer contributions and to avoid contributions being lost in the system or credited for the incorrect employee.  

Additionally, the system will permit the ATO to monitor employers in their discharge of their superannuation payment obligations.
