The Unpleasantness at the Industry Fund Club
Currently, many industry funds invest in private equity and other non-listed investments. As these investments are not listed on any market (unlike most public company shares) they are not valued on a day to day basis and have not as yet been officially exposed to the impact of reduced economic expectations and negative forecasts.
These investments are usually valued in respect of each reporting period at a value determined by the trustees of the fund (acting on the advice of valuers and other advisers). It will be interesting to see how these assets are valued and whether the trustees will dip into their investment reserves to boost the current returns.
We understand that these issues are currently generating some heated discussion at trustees’ meetings.
