Senator Sherry Announces His Review a Communique of a Press Release

Senator Sherry has officially announced that the Government will conduct a review of the Australian superannuation system.

The terms of reference of the review and names of the persons conducting the review will be announced shortly.

The review will be concerned with the operational features of the current superannuation system.  The tax features of the current superannuation system are being reviewed as part of the Henry Tax Review.  This superannuation review will, like the Henry Tax Review, be a “roots and branch” review.

The review is to examine the structure, operation and efficiency of the current superannuation system and, according to Senator Sherry, the Government has no pre-determined views on the outcome of the review.

The review has been announced by way of a Press Release titled “Communiqué of Principles for Superannuation”

Interestingly, the Communiqué states that the core elements of the Australian superannuation system are “strong and well regulated”.
