MySuper Statistics

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (“APRA”) has recently released some statistics on MySuper superannuation products.

The statistics are interim and relate to the four quarters up to June 2014.  As at 30 June 2014 there were 93 registered superannuation licensees (ie trustees of superannuation funds regulated by APRA) offering MySuper products; that 116 MySuper products have been issued and that total assets in MySuper products were $363.2bn, which represents about a 1/3rd of all superannuation assets in APRA regulated funds.

It is interesting to speculate whether in the future superannuation will be dominated by SMSFs and MySuper products.
