Latest Super Statistics: Numbers with surprises

APRA has shed some statistical light on Australia’s $2,000b superannuation sector with the release of its Quarterly Superannuation Performance Report (in respect of the December 2015 Quarter).
Key stats are:
- 566,735 SMSFs as at 31 December 2015
- Industry funds are the fastest growing sector by asset value – increasing by 10.54% over the 12 months to 31 December 2015 (from $403.1b to $445.6b)
- SMSFs are the next fastest growing sector by asset value – increasing by 5.73% over the same 12 month period from $562.4b to $594.6b
- Retail funds grew over the 12 month period to 31 December 2015 by 4.77% from $515.9b to $540.5b.
