$53,879 is now the estimated annual income level for a comfortable retirement for a couple.  This estimate is provided by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia.

$30,708 is the estimated annual income level for a modest retirement for a couple.  This estimate is also provided by the Association.

To achieve these levels of retirement income, the couple will require about $600,000 super balance for a modest retirement and about $1m super balance for a comfortable retirement.

The estimation of the required super balances is based upon a couple in the 65 to 74 age bracket and drawing down 5% of their super balances.
