Can an SMSF opt out of Superstream?

Yes, but in doing so the SMSF will not be paid any employer contributions for its members (unless the contributions are entirely related party employer contributions) and will not be paid any benefit transfers and rollovers.

It is not a breach of an operating standard to opt out of Superstream – and the compliance status of the fund will not be affected.  The only consequence is that Superstream contributions cannot be made to the SMSF.  These contributions will then be made to another superannuation fund.
