APRA December 2014 Super Stats
APRA estimates that at December 2014 – total super assets were $1,930b of which $568b (29.4%) were held in small funds (SMSFs and small APRA funds).

APRA estimates that $100b of super contributions were made to large funds (ie funds which have 5 or more members) were made during the calendar year 2014. Net contributions (gross contributions plus net benefit transfers less benefit payments) were $39.4b for calendar year 2014.
SMSF Stats
APRA estimates that there were 545,334 SMSFs as at 31 December 2014 (an increase over the calendar year of 26,540) while estimate assets of SMSFs in the calendar year 2014 increased from $530b to $568b.
Consolidation within the APRA universe
Consolidation continues within the APRA regulated universe. In the calendar year to December 2014, the number of large APRA regulated funds (ie funds with 5 or more members) decreased from 290 to 258.
APRA has also reclassified a number of large APRA funds. Due to the reclassification, the number of corporate funds has reduced from 73 to 34 and the number of retail funds has increased from 103 to 144. Additionally, the number of industry funds was reduced by 4 and the number of public sector funds increased by 2, due to the reclassification. Overall there was no change in the number of large APRA funds.
